Strand cane is a seven step process of weaving narrow strands of cane through holes drilled into a wooden frame.  To determine the cost of replacing a strand cane panel, you count these holes and multiply...(see the pricing guide page).   This seat panel, for instance, would be somewhere around $85.00.

There is another type of caning that looks the same but is an entirely different animal we call "pressed cane".  You can determine whether your chair is strand cane or pressed cane easily by turning the chair over;  you will see where the strands come through the holes...or not.  The pressed cane comes pre-woven in rolls, like screening, and  is literally pressed into a groove routed into the wooden frame, then a spline is glued and tapped into the groove on top of it to hold it permanently in place.
